Bang Drum, the world music specialists, came into school to work alongside musical staff and our gifted and talented musicians. We explored Brazilian beats, new drum techniques, songs and the history of Samba. New Beats was made into a sequence we performed with our partner school in Guiseley, Leeds at the National Festival of Music for Youth at the Royal Festival Hall. We’ve performed all over the place, highlights being the Schools Prom at the Royal Albert Hall, the Birmingham Symphony Hall and the Bridgewater Hall in Manchester. The band took part in the Nice International carnival, one of the biggest in the world, and now we are planning a summer tour to Belgium.”

“The Samba project focussed some pupils on the future, led to growing confidence and self esteem, and better peer relations, for others it improved attendance and improved relations with staff.” - teacher
“Teachers have gained enormously. We have worked with our partner school in Leeds, teaching them what we learnt, and we have also taken the ideas and techniques into our partner primaries.” -teacher
