“What could have been better? We wanted more rehearsals.” - student
E-SPACE
Our Urban Movement project targeted a group of year 7 boys from diverse backgrounds who needed their energies channelling in creative ways. Kema Ekpei, a male dance artist, led workshops, created digital vocal footage and choreographed a piece called Virtual Reality. Meanwhile, dance artist Julia Griffin worked with Year 9 gifted and talented girls to develop Network Intersect, a multimedia performance exploring the myriad of communication pathways. The two strands came together in a spectacular digital dance performance E-space, combining movement, film, audio sampling and music. A truly fitting opening to our Blue Box Theatre.
“The
boys demanded the group kept going and went on to work together
again, performing for the BeeGees in May, for the Unity Festival
in June and at the Bridgewater Hall - for the rest of the school
dance for boys became cool.” - teacher
“The group developed team spirit
and determination, and this brought them recognition from other
members of staff.” - teacher
“I enjoyed performing best – oh yeh, and the rehearsals.” - student
