To develop the key skills of team work, problem solving and communication

Engaging in creative activities enables young people, including those disenchanted with and/or disengaged from formal education provision, to develop life skills. This impacts on the way they see themselves, each other, the rest of school and their wider environment.

“There were tremendous individual achievements for some members of the group.” – Teacher Chorlton High School

“Working as a team, everyone gets involved, you have everything your own way, it’s your CD no one else’s. but everyone’s helped you.” - Pupil Plant Hill High School

“The group developed team spirit and determination, and this brought them recognition from other members of staff.” – Teacher Chorlton High School

“There is a much greater sense of ownership and control over the NOF work compared to school work. One boy who did not speak for an entire year in my art class, chatted constantly coming up with ideas and suggestions, so I would say for some young people having control over their own work is a real liberating factor.” - Teacher Newall Green High School

“my confidence in my music has gone up, and it’s made us not see them as teachers as such, you can speak to them like normal people.” - Pupil Plant Hill High School

“We were pleased with the increased confidence particularly the shy Year 7s.” – Teacher City of Leeds School
